MusicHappy New Year! It’s been a whole year since I have written to you last. And what a year it was! I want to thank each person in the church for making Hannah and I feel welcomed during this first year of our ministry here at Northwest Hills.
I also want to say thank you to all those who participated in our Christmas Musical, Jesus, Our Treasure. If you were unable to attend, you missed an exciting presentation of the “gospel in a nutshell” by the Sanctuary Choir, the Noisemakers, and the drama and crew. Many long hours of hard work went into the production. If you have not already personally thanked those who participated in the musical, please do so as soon as possible. One final note on the Christmas Musical: if you still have a book at home, please return it to me ASAP.
In January, the Sanctuary Choir will begin work on our Easter Musical, The Risen Christ. We will present the musical on Palm Sunday, April 1, 2012. Now is the best time to join the choir if you have been considering it. The qualifications are a testimony of knowing Christ as Savior, having followed Him in Believer’s Baptism, and being at least 15 years-old. You may be asking at this point, “He didn’t mention anything about being able to sing.” And you’re right! I am more interested in your desire to worship your Redeemer in Spirit and in Truth. We can work on talent together. The choir meets every Wednesday night immediately following Prayer Meeting and Bible Study (we try to start around 7:30pm).
The Noisemakers will also be working on music to present in worship on Sunday mornings. The Noisemakers Choir is for any child in 1st through 5th grade. We meet in the Sanctuary at 6:00pm on Wednesday nights; then, we march down to the Choir Room (we call it the Dungeon) for rehearsal. For parents with children in this choir, the servers of our Wednesday Night Meal will start serving at 5:30pm so they can have time to eat and still get to choir. Once again, right now is a great time to get involved in Noisemakers.
We are also looking for a time during the week to begin Orchestra rehearsals again. If you play a band or orchestra instrument (kazoo does not count), and have at least a high school level of experience, you are invited to participate in this ensemble. I will be posting more information about this ensemble soon.
Last but certainly not least, we have a Hand-bell Choir that meets every Tuesday night at 6:30pm. Membership in this ensemble is limited due to a limited number of bells. Contact Joni Norwood for more information about this ensemble.
2011 was a great year. 2012 promises to be even more exciting! Let us keep our eyes on Jesus as we begin His work for this new year!
